Wendell A. Ball

Wendell A. Ball, 95, a resident of the Meadows Assisted Living Center in Montoursville, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2013. His beloved wife for 74 years, Juanita Naomi, preceded him in death by seven weeks.

Wendell was born in Paw Paw, Mich. on May 31, 1917. He was employed as a personnel manager by Ellingsworth Mfg., a subsidiary of Textron. Wendell was the visionary who created Eureka!, a property which is now part of the Southwestern Michigan Land Conservancy.

Upon retirement Wendell and Juanita traveled extensively before settling in southern Texas where he created his “Eureka Warm Home”. In 2008, they moved to Pennsylvania to be near their family.

Wendell was a 32nd degree Mason and he served in the Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of many conservation organizations in Michigan and was a pioneer in the field of environmental awareness. He will always be remembered for his wisdom, his passion for learning, and his love of nature and his family.

Wendell is survived by three daughters, Wendy McCormick (Marty) of Jersey Shore, Phylleri Ball (Gregory Pais) of Trout Run, and Annette Ball (Tom Schneider) of Santa Rosa, Calif.; five grandchildren and two great-granddaughters also survive.

A joint celebration of the lives of Wendell and Juanita will be held at the Meadows Assisted Living Center, 2160 Warrensville Road, Montoursville, April 1. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Special music will be provided by family and friends. In honor of Wendell and Juanita a Eureka!
