Arlene Bird, 79, of Montoursville, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 24, 1933, she was a daughter of A. Wayne Hickoff and Madeline T. (MacDonald) Hickoff-Gardner. She married Douglas Bird and would have celebrated 53 years together June 18.
Arlene graduated from Williamsport High School, class of 1951. She retired from Sedgwick of Pa. in 1996 after 27 years. She was a member of Montoursville Presbyterian Church and served as deacon, treasurer and secretary of the women’s group. Arlene was an avid reader, played pinochle with her husband and friends card club for 50 years, and kept in touch with her pen-pal from England for 63 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Darryl Bird (Wendy) of Watsontown; a daughter, Alison Cardone (Joe) of South Williamsport; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, H. Dewane Stuck (James) of Williamsport, Teresa Kase of Williamsport and Karen Diehl (Dennis) of Jersey Shore; and a sister-in-law, Linda Hickoff of Hughesville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Vickie M. Bird; and two brothers, Darryl C. and Garth D. Hickoff.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18, at Montoursville Presbyterian Church, 900 Elm St., Montoursville, with Rev. David C. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
