Betty Mae Kirkpatrick Coon

Betty Mae (Richey) Kirkpatrick Coon, 90, of Williamsport, died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Roseview Manor.

Born Nov. 29, 1922, in Milton, she was a daughter of the late Vern and Venita (Beatty) Richey.

Betty was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. She worked at Avco for 35 years, from which she retired in 1987. Betty was a member of Balls Mills United Methodist Church. She loved shopping, cooking and traveling to Florida.

Surviving is her loving husband of 22 years, Robert E. Coon; a daughter, Lynn (Jim) Verberg of Hickory, N.C.; two stepchildren, Rod (Darleen) Coon of Williamsport and Wanda (Todd) Johnson of Shippensburg; eight grandchildren, Scott (Kelly) Verberg, Tanya (Michael) Broyan, Denise (Victor) Gorine, Doy “Deke” (Tina) Kirkpatrick III, Rebecca Coon, Robert A. Coon, Adam Johnson and Rachel Johnson; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her son, Doy “Skip” Kirkpatrick II, and 10 siblings, Clyde Richey, Sally Ritter, Robert Richey, Max Richey, Catherine Nosel, Doris Bookout, Jean Berfield, Lois Prentiss, Tom Richey and Eileen Hinston.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Balls Mills United Methodist Church with Rev. Jay A. Morris and Rev. Dale Rintelman officiating. Burial will follow at Balls Mills Cemetery, Cogan Station. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport.
