Prior to deploying to Korea, he married his hometown sweetheart, Maxine Schrader, on Jan. 25, 1951. Upon his return from Korea, he completed his education at Penn State University and graduated with a bachelor’s in education in 1954.

Following graduation, Dave returned to Montoursville and opened Everetts’ Insurance Agency on Broad Street in partnership with his brother, Deavor. Over the years, the agency merged and expanded becoming Cooper-Everett, Cooper-Everett-Blessing and finally the Penn Insurance Agency. In 1983, he was one of four Central Pennsylvania insurance agents who founded the Keystone Insurers Group which over the years has grown to included hundreds of independent insurance agencies in eight states. He was also a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Pennsylvania where he served as Director, Secretary and President. After more than 40 years in the insurance business, he retired from Penn Insurance in 1995.

Dave was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church and was involved in many community activities in Montoursville over the years including coaching Little League Baseball and as a member of Eureka Lodge 335 F&AM, American Legion Post 104 and the General John Burrows Historical Society.

Following his retirement, he was an avid reader of detective novels, a dedicated New York Times crossword puzzler, a volunteer at the Thomas T. Taber Museum, where he cataloged donated collections, and enjoyed playing golf and poker. For the past 15 or so years, Maxine and Dave spent the winter months in Sebring, Fla., where they met a wonderful group of friends with whom they enjoyed playing golf and socializing.
