Janice F. ‘Janney’ Stroup Laurenson
Janice F. “Janney” Stroup Laurenson, 75, loving mother to her six children, whom she greatly adored, of Hughesville, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013, in the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.
Born in Muncy (in her grandparents home), on Sunday, June 20, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Gordon R. and Eleanor M. (Renn) Stroup Sr.
Janice was a 1955 graduate of Muncy High School. She was employed as a CNA by the Muncy Valley Hospital SNU. Earlier in life she had been employed as an electoral clerk of the election polls of Northumberland Co.
Janice enjoyed providing child care services, traveling, ballroom dancing and word find puzzles. She was a former member of the West Branch Chorale and an excellent seamstress.
She is survived by six children, Polly A. Reynolds, Watsontown, Pamela S. (Gerald) Felix, New Columbia, Patti Jo (Robert) Parker, Milton, Fla., Penny L. (Todd) Brehm, Unityville, Rodney R. Frick, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Beth M. (Ben) Libby, Hughesville; a brother, Rev. Thomas C. (Darlene) Stroup, Brockport, N.Y.; three sisters, R. Anne (Robert) Menges, Muncy, Wanda L. Lundy, Montoursville, Ellen (Charles) Lawson, Camp Hill; and her first husband, William F. Frick, Hughesville.
She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Janice was preceded in death by her second husband, Kenneth Shoemaker; two brothers, Rev. Robert Stroup and Gordon R. “Skip” Stroup Jr.; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013, from the Twin Hills Church of the Nazarene, 588 Cemetery Road, Muncy, with Reverend Thomas C. Stroup, her brother, officiating. Interment will be in the Muncy Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service to help defray funeral expenses.
