Miriam Lucille Johnson
Miriam Lucille Johnson, 86, a resident of New Freedom, Pa., formerly of Montgomery, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, in the Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehab Center at Shrewsbury, Pa. Born in McEwensville, Northumberland County, Pa., on Friday, April 9, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Mary Elizabeth Bower.
Miriam was the widow of Harvey W. “Bill” Johnson, who preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 2000. His death broke a marital union of 53 years.
Miriam was a 1944 graduate of the former Watsontown High School. She was employed in the cafeteria of the Montgomery High School and also held various retail positions at the former Hurr’s Store at Montgomery, the former Gee Bees at the Lycoming Mall and also the Bon-Ton at the Mall. Most of all, Miriam was an expert homemaker.
She was a member of the St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church at Montgomery. Miriam enjoyed reading, playing cards, sewing, knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Gary Shrey, New Freedom, Pa.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles and Cindy Johnson, Savannah, Ga., David and Amy Johnson, Philadelphia, Pa., Lynn Johnson, Dayton, Nev.; three grandsons, Justin and Megan Johnson, Savannah, Ga., Brent and Dr. Noelle Clark-Johnson, Charlotte, N.C., Eric Johnson, Columbia, S.C.; and one great-grandson, Sidney Johnson.
Funeral services will be conducted from the St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church, 196 Brick Church Road, Montgomery at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2013, with Rev. Viking E. Dietrich, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Lutheran “Brick” Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
