Harlan B. Phelps

On May 9, 2013, Harlan Blair Phelps of Buttonwood, Trout Run, passed away at ManorCare North in Williamsport. He was 91. Born in Wellsboro on May 20, 1921, he was the son of Blair and Cora (Denison) Phelps. He was raised on his family’s farm and was a 1939 graduate of Liberty High School. Eventually he left the farming profession and was a self employed building contractor for many years. Mr. Phelps was also a man of faith, and was a longtime member of the Steam Valley Bible Church.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, the former Freda Schmouder; son, Charles Phelps of Lutz, Fla.; daughter, Sharon Warn of East Point; special niece, Donna Knorr of Buttonwood; brother, Robert Phelps of Oregon Hill, Pa.; and grandchildren, Judy Phelps of Chattanooga, Tenn., Jesse Phelps of Lima, N.Y., Gabrielle Smith of Allentown, Nathan Phelps of Fla., and Sarah Keller of Philadelphia. He was preceded in death by son, Jesse; sisters, Jean Patt and Carol Miller; and brother, LaVerne Phelps.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 13, at the Steam Valley Bible Church. Service will be at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gerald Peet officiating. Interment will follow in Steam Valley Cemetery. Morse & Kleese Funeral Home.
