Louise P. ‘Lady’ Ledger

Louise P. “Lady” Ledger, 89, formerly of Shrewsbury Township, Sullivan County, died Monday, May 6, 2013, at Rose View Center, Williamsport.

Born Feb. 17, 1924, in South Canaan, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Louise Reere Marquardt. Her husband of 37 years, Joseph W. Ledger, preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 1982.

Lady enjoyed working as a housekeeper in Eagles Mere and having an opportunity to meet and develop many lasting memories and relationships. She was an outdoor enthusiast who loved animals and was known for her ability to nurture and often feed many of the wild animals out of her hand. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Sullivan County Museum, baking, sewing and reading.

Lady was a member of the Valley United Methodist Church, Muncy Valley, and a former member of the American Legion Post 601 Ladies Auxiliary and the Muncy Valley Area Vol. Fire Comp. Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are two sons, Rodney A. (Eileen) Ledger of Lebanon and Steven W. Ledger of Muncy Valley; a sister, Margareth “Sis” (Dick) Kilgus of Watsontown; four brothers, Frank Marquardt of Dewart, Alton Marquardt of Nesbitt, Arthur (Jean) Marquardt of Hughesville and Daniel (Arlene) Marquardt of Sonestown; four grandchildren, Sonya Keller of Sierra Vista, Sarah (Eric) Rodgers of New Cumberland, Aaron “Duff” (Charlene) Ledger of Muncy Valley and David (Diana) Ledger of Lewistown; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lady was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Reere and Robert Marquardt.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, at Valley United Methodist Church, 1874 Rt. 220, Muncy Valley, with Rev. Craig Livermore officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Sonestown. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville.

The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions to Valley United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 185, Muncy Valley, PA 17758.
