Ronald Bryan, 73, of Canton, passed away at home while surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Williamsport on April 28, 1940, Ronald Glen “Ron” Bryan was a son of the late Emory J. and Dorothy J. (Brown) Bryan. He attended Montoursville area schools. On June 6, 1959, Ron married the former Bonnie Soper in Proctor and they made their home in Ralston. In earlier years, he was employed at the Blair Sawmill in Barbours, later at the Lundy Lumber Co. and Lonza both in Williamsport. He also worked for over 45 years for the Ralston Water Authority. Ron was very active and a lifetime member of the Ralston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Association, serving as a past fire chief, an officer and ambulance driver. He was a member of Canton’s V.F.W. Post 714, Moose Lodge #429, the Red Run Rod and Gun Club of Ralston and the NRA. Special times to Ron were shared with family, the grandkids and his “pumpkin” Vayda. He was an outdoors enthusiast enjoying camping at Hillsgrove, mowing grass at Mill Hill Manor, and tending his own yard and gardens. He also adored his dogs.
In addition to his wife, Bonnie, surviving are his children, James E. (Annie Looney) Bryan and Debra (Rodman “Bum”) Holmes all of Canton; five grandchildren; Mickel M. Bryan, Vayda M. Bryan, Tyler J. Kutz, Maddy M. Kutz and Randi J. Kutz; a brother, Emerson Bryan of Hughesville; mother-in-law, Jane Soper (Nelson Buckwalter) of Ralston; sister-in-law, Marilynn (Alfred) Route of Canton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also his dog and special companion, Doc.
He was predeceased by his mother in 2004, his father in 2007, an infant daughter, Karen M. in 1970; father-in-law, Gerald Soper in 1983 and Brother-in-law, Gary Soper in 1982.
Calling hours are 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr., Canton. Pastor Ann Overmiller will officiate the memorial service at 7 p.m. Private burial will be in Barbours Cemetery.
