William Lyle Hurne

William Lyle Hurne, 89, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Williamsport and New York, passed away Friday, June 7, 2013, at the Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, Pa.

He was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Hornell, Steuben County, N.Y., the son of the late Otto G. and Lila L. Swarthout Hurne.

Lyle was a retired Design Engineer for Elmar Industries, Buffalo, N.Y. and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was also a member of New Covenant Fellowship, Mechanicsburg; the Messiah Singing Mens Choir and was a Republican Committeeman for Upper Allen Township.

He was the widower of the late Shirley Herr Hurne.

Lyle is survived by his loving family, his wife, Thelma “Timmie” Zimmerman Baddorf Hurne, of Mechanicsburg; his sons, Charles D., of Akron, N.Y.; John D., of Elmhurst, Ill.; William L. Jr., of Boynton Beach, Fla.; Rev. Timothy J., of Pulaski, N.Y. and Daniel K., of Columbia City, Ind; his daughter, Linda K. Burk, of Elmhurst, Ill.; his brother, Charles Hurne, of South Carolina; his step-children, Debra S. Baddorf, of Aurora, Ill., Arthur P. Baddorf, of Knoxville, Tenn.; David J. Baddorf, of Mechanicsburg and Robert A. Baddorf, of Camp Hill; his sister, Helen Atwood, of Mechanicsburg; 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday 10:30 a.m., June 12, 2013, at the Messiah Village Brethren in Christ Church, 100 Mt. Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, Pa., with the Reverend Brett Hartman, officiating. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday with Military Honors in the Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport, Pa. A viewing will be held Wednesday, one hour prior to the Service at the Church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
