Emerson Kline, 80, of 116 Glover St., Jersey Shore, died Friday July 5, 2013, in the Jersey Shore Hospital Emergency Room.
Born Oct. 8, 1932, in Sanborn, Pa., he was the son of Ai W. Kline and the former Ruth Barnett. Emerson was preceded in death by his wife, the former L. Joan Rupert on Oct. 13, 2011. They were united in marriage Sept. 26, 1964.
Emerson was a life member of the Citizens Hose Co. and Ambulance Service. He also served on the Jersey Shore Borough Council for several terms including two terms as council president. For many years he was a member of the men’s group of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jersey Shore. He honorably served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army from Jan. 23, 1953 until Jan. 20, 1956.
Emerson is survived by a son, Dwane A. (Patty) Kline of Big Flats, N.Y.; one daughter, Cathy L. (Richard) Stripp of Jersey Shore; four grandchildren, Morgan Kline, Alexandria Kline, Scott (Angie) Stripp, and Stephanie (James) Knepp; three great-grandchildren, Cru, Krystal and Lee; one great-great-grandchild, Harli; two sisters, Idabelle (Bill) Kirkwood of Jersey Shore and Hilda Shively of Dubois and five brothers, Ernest Kline of Sanborn, Pa., Emery Kline of Dubois, Thomas Kline of Dubois, Clifford (Ruth) Kline of York and Ashley (Bonnie) Kline of Philipsburg. Emerson was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Kline.
Funeral services will be Wednesday July 10, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1601 Walnut St., Jersey Shore. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Wednesday, until time of services in the church. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard. Rev. Gary Shumway and Rev. Lee Kline will officiate.
Family will provide flowers and suggest memorial contributions be made in his name to the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, is in charge of arrangements.
