Mike F. Kawa

Mike F. (Mercislaus) Kawa, of Williamsport, and a resident of The Williamsport Home, died Saturday July 6, 2013. Mike was born in Johnstown on Oct. 17, 1920, a son of John and Catherine Kawa. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church where he served as a Sacristan and was very active in the church’s carnival. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 366.

Mike was a tool designer at Avco Lycoming Engines and was owner of Mike’s Bowling Supply for 54 years. He was Bowler of the Year, inducted into the Bowler’s Hall of Fame, member of the 700 and 300 clubs and was the oldest bowler in Lycoming County to bowl a 300 at age 90.

A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he was recipient of the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy on Luzon. Mike was a lifetime member of American Legion Garrett-Cochran Post 1.

He and his wife, Ann, celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary Aug. 27, 2012.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael A. Kawa of Middleburg; daughters, Karen (Rick) Metz of Williamsport, Patricia (Thomas) Moore of Jersey Shore, Catherine (Patrick) Marcinko of Jessup; six grandchildren; a brother, Bernard Kawa of Johnstown and a sister, Eleonore Palowitch of Virginia.

In addition to his parents, three grandchildren preceded him in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., Williamsport, Pa., on Thursday July 11, 2013, at 10 a.m.

The family will receive friends at St Boniface Church Lounge from 6 to 8:30 p.m. the night prior to the mass with a recitation of the Rosary at 8:30 p.m. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery with military honors provided by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations in Mike’s name may be made to Susquehanna Home Care and Hospice, C/O Susquehanna Health Foundation,1001 Grampian Blvd, Williamsport, PA 17701, or to The Shriners Hospital for Children, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19140. Crouse Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
