Elmer Leverne Kisinger

On Aug. 24, 2013, Elmer Leverne Kisinger passed away peacefully in Williamsport, after an extended illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was 89 years old.

Elmer was the loving and devoted husband of Mary Dibler Kisinger. They were married on July 26, 1943, in Fort Sheridan, Ill. He was the father to four children, grandfather to nine, and great-grandfather to thirteen. He was born on June 3, 1924, in Muncy Valley, to Lucy Edkin Kisinger and Ellis Kisinger.

Elmer was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps in France and Germany. At the end of the war he drove many former German prisoners-of-war back to their home towns.

Elmer drove more than a million miles all over the country during his many years as a tractor-trailer driver. He retired from Smith Truck Lines in February 1989 with an outstanding safety record. He was a talented metalworker and designed and built a variety of machinery and tractors.

Elmer is survived by son, James Kisinger, of Morris Run; daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Bob Price, of Trout Run, Shirley and Dave Stout, of Snohomish, Wash., and Kathy and Ed Matreski, of DuBois.

He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Mary Kisinger; parents, Lucy Edkin Kisinger and Ellis Kisinger; brothers, Ralph and Allan Kisinger, and sisters, Ruth Parks and Edith Stevens.

Friends will be received at Freeberg Funeral Home, Blossburg, Tuesday Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to noon. The funeral service will follow at noon.

Elmer will be laid to rest in the Tioga County Memorial Gardens.
