Cecelia “Jean” Kunes, 95, of Avis, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Sunday morning, Aug. 25, 2013, at the Bob Fryer and Family Inpatient Hospice Center in Mount Joy, Pa.
Born Cecelia Cristina Campana on Dec. 28, 1917, in Mill Hall, she was the second daughter of Michael and Carmella Yonne Campana.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton “Leo” Kunes, with whom she shared 34 years of marriage. Her first husband, Fiori Mancini, died in 1946.
Jean was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church where she was very active in the church auxiliary.
She is survived by her only son, Gregory (Tracey) Kunes, of Lancaster; two beloved grandchildren, Joshua Kunes, of Avis and Autumn (Christopher) Hunara, of Lancaster; daughter-in-law, Shelley Kunes, of Norman, Okla., and one great-grandson, Aiden Thomas Kunes, of Avis.
Jean is also survived by two sisters, Rosie Massaro and Violet (Charles) Russo, both of Jersey Shore, and was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Jean loved caring for her home and nourished people around her with love, faith, and food, a guest never left hungry.
The greatest joy of her life was her son, Greg, grandson, Josh, and granddaughter, Autumn. She enjoyed her flower garden and collecting crystal baskets and Precious Moment’s figurines. She was always happiest spending time with her entire family and her last words to them were: “always love each other.”
