Robert C. ‘R.C.’ Smith
Robert C. “R.C.” Smith, 89, of Montoursville, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2013 at Valley View Nursing Center.
He was born January 26, 1924, in Williamsport, a son of Howard and Thelma Livingston Smith.
R.C. was a World War II Army Air Force Veteran, having served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe and the Battle of the Bulge. He received a Good Conduct Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Service Medal with five Bronze Stars and received a citation from the government of France.
He worked for PP&L for 39 years.
R.C. had many memberships including St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, major branches of Freemasonry, 60-year member of John F. Laedlein Lodge No. 707 F&AM, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies, Lycoming Royal Arch Chapter No. 222, Irem Temple of Wilkes Barre, Adoniran Council No. 26, past Commander of Howard W. Kahler VFW Post No. 844, American Red Cross for 15 years, past president of Montoursville Rotary Club, North Central Heart Association and the Zafar Grotto Club.
He was also active in South Williamsport politics for many years as a committee man, assessor and zoning administrator.
R.C. is survived by his wife, the former Marguerite C. Shuman, who he married February 9, 1946; a daughter, Cherie L. Foust of Montoursville; two grandchildren, Kelly (Larry) Pittenger and Brett Foust, both of Montoursville; and three great-grandchildren, Kasey, Trae, and Addison.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street, Montoursville, with Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin officiating. Interment will follow in the Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday morning at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m.
