Catherine Belles Goertz
Catherine Belles Goertz, 94, of Williamsport, passed away Oct. 20, 2013, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 8, 1918, in Philadelphia, the daughter of Walter and Jennie (Zerbe) Belles.
Catherine was the wife of the late Russell L. Goertz.
She was a lifetime member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Catherine was a Sunday school teacher and a member of Theos and the Music and Worship Committee.
Catherine was a 1936 graduate of Williamsport High School.
She was a secretary for Penn State University, Grit Publishing and C.A. Reed earlier in life.
Catherine was a Cub Scout den mother, past president of local Hammond Organ Society and Red Cross volunteer.
She is survived by two sons, John C. (Dorothy) Goertz, of Bellefonte and Gary L. (DeeAnn) Goertz, of Williamsport; a sister, Mary Ellen Shoemaker, of Baltimore, Md.; two grandchildren, Ashley A. Hallabuk and Ryan G. Goertz; three great-grandchildren, Makaylee Hallabuk, Noah Hallabuk and Mariah Hallabuk; two nieces; two nephews; six great-nephews; four great-nieces; and one great-great-nephew.
Catherine was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a brother, Carl Belles; and a niece, Jeanne Belles.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 142 Market St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
Relatives and friends are invited to Catherine’s Life Celebration service 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, Ltd., “A Life Celebration Home,” 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, with Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin officiating. A visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery.
