James Watson Buckman
James Watson Buckman, 62, of Williamsport, passed away Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born on Aug. 1, 1951, in Philadelphia, he was the son of Dr. Sydney Watson and Doris (Poulterer) Buckman. Jim grew up in Lafayette Hill outside of Philadelphia.
James was the husband of the former Debra Ringler with whom he shared 39 years of marriage.
He graduated in 1968 from Plymouth-White Marsh High School, Lafayette Hill; Mansfield State University, then Mansfield State College, in 1974 with a degree in social work; and from the Williamsport Area Community College in 1988 with a degree in computer information systems. Jim also held the following certificates: A+, CNST, and CNCT.
James retired from Robert M. Sides Family Music Center in September 2012, where he was a network specialist. Prior to working at Sides, Jim was a customer service representative for MMI and CMO. Before beginning his career in computers, Jim was a an insurance salesman for Metropolitan Life and AAL and a restaurant manager for McDonald’s at the Lycoming Mall and in Philadelphia.
He was active in the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Choir and the Williamsport Civic Chorus where he had performed many solos as well as serving on the governing board. Jim did acting in several community groups including the Community Theatre League, MATODA, Scottish Rite Players, and West Branch Players.
Jim’s hobbies included music, photography, trains and travel. He was often seen in the Nesbit area photographing trains at the bridge. Taking rail rambles had been a favorite since childhood.
Surviving besides his wife, Debra, are two sons, Nicholas Ian and Sean Michael, both of Williamsport; his two grandchildren, Ezra and Gillian Buckman, of Williamsport; a brother, Robert (Fran), of Lafayette Hill; plus two nephews and two great-nephews. He will also be missed by his faithful companions, Captain, Squeak, and Noel, his three cats.

James’ Life Celebration memorial service will be held noon, Sunday, Nov, 3, 2013, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 142 Market St., Williamsport, with Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, Ltd., “A Life Celebration Home,” 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport.
