Marion Anderson, 90, White Lake, S.D., died Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, S.D. Burial will be in the Underwood Cemetery at rural White Lake. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Marion Little Anderson was born Feb. 4, 1923, in Picture Rocks, Pa., to Harold E. and Anna (Fague) Little. She attended nursing school in Germantown (Philadelphia), where she met the love of her life, Carl Arthur Anderson on a blind date. They eloped on Dec. 8, 1942. They resided in New Jersey until Art retired. They then moved to the old Patten School, north of White Lake, to live near their daughter, Cristine. At the Patten School, Marion continued her life-long talents and love for music and art. She played the piano and organ for the Underwood Methodist Church services. She enjoyed creating pictures made from prairie grasses and dried native flowers, as well as watercolors and colored pencil sketches of local birds and scenes.
She is survived by her six children, Carl Jr., of Manchester, Mass., Johanna Guzman, of San Antonio, Texas, Susan Terwedow Adamus, of West Chicago, Ill., Cristine Headley, of White Lake, S.D., Arne Anderson, of Asheville, N.C., John Anderson, of Sussex, N.J.; her brother, H. Franklin Little, of Williamsport; sister-in-law, Edith Anderson, of Williamsport; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, to share all the stories of the Anderson’s lives and how Marion touched our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, July 13, 1990; sisters, Marjorie Artley, Martha Little; brother, Paul Little; sister-in-law, Mildren Anderson; and beloved grandson, Jay Leander Headley.
