Miles F. Artley

Miles F. Artley, 93, formerly of Liberty, passed away Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at the Kramm Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Milton.

He was born March 4, 1920, in Liberty, a son of the late Frank B. and Carrie M. (Kalmbach) Artley. He was married to Barbara D. (Knerr) Artley, who preceded him in death on Dec. 11, 2010.

Miles attended Liberty schools and ran the family farm along with his brother, Robert and sister, Hazel, until his retirement in 1986. He attended Salem Lutheran Church and was a member of the Order of the Knights of Pythias before moving to Williamsport and becoming a member of the Church of the Savior.

Miles was a life-long hunter and enjoyed helping and spending time with neighbors, friends, and especially family. In his later years, he and Barbara took pleasure in traveling with family and were active in the Bald Eagle Kennel Club along with their border collies Kelby, Kip, and Kap.

Surviving are a nephew and caregivers, Dr. Thomas A. and Marie T. Eiswerth and their family, and other nieces and nephews, JoAnn M. Castellano, Ronald F. Eiswerth, Gregory D. Burke, Lisa A. Dunkleberger, Jeffrey A. Knerr, and their families. Also surviving are a brother-in-law, George C. Knerr III, and his wife, Gwendolyn R.

Miles was predeceased by all of his siblings and their spouses, Edith E. (Harry) Moyer, Robert W. (Lena) Artley, Hazel L. Artley, Margaret L. (Jesse) Gruver, Mary E. (Arthur) Eiswerth, Phyllis I. (Joseph) Burke, and one great-nephew, Patrick T. Eiswerth.

Family and friends are invited to Miles’ Life Celebration service beginning with a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Friedens Lutheran Church, Liberty, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Rick Adams officiating.

Burial will follow the service in the Church’s cemetery.

The James C. Maneval Funeral Home, Ltd., “A Life Celebration Home,” 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
