Harold L. ‘Skip’ Hunsinger

Harold L. “Skip” Hunsinger, 74, of Williamsport, died Nov. 2, 2013, following a brief battle with cancer, at home surrounded by his family. He was born July 29, 1939, in Williamsport, a son of the late Bruce H. and Helen H. Hunsinger. Aug. 4, 1962, he married Helen C. Mincemoyer, who survives.

He was an active member of St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church, where he sang in the Choir for over 65 years, member of the F.R.O.G. Sunday School Class, served on the board for the School of the Arts, served the senior citizens meals, and many other committees throughout the years. He graduated from Williamsport Area High School, Class of 1957. He was a painter and paperhanger for many years, starting with his father when he was young and never really retired. Hunsinger Painting started in 1928 and continues through his son today.

Earlier in life, he was active in Babe Ruth Baseball, coaching many all-star teams and active at Old Lycoming Township Little League. Skip had been active in the John H. Bower Sunday School Basketball League as a coach for many years and as a board member. He also served as a committeeman for Boy Scout Troup 14 since the 1980’s and had been active in their Pancake Supper. Skip enjoyed ushering at the Community Arts Center over the past 12 years, helping with many raffles and brought back the old time Children’s Christmas Spectacular. Skip had a love for life by spending time at Central Oak Heights and drinking Pepsi with friends.

In addition to his wife of 51 years, he is survived by three sons, Bryan H. (Tammy) Hunsinger, of Hughesville, Harold L. “Butch” (Susan) Hunsinger II, and Joel R. Hunsinger, both of Williamsport; four grandchildren, Tana B. (Jarrod) Herr, of Muncy, Cara J. (Zach) Schumacher, of Menwith Hill RAF, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England, Jonathan B. Hunsinger, of Williamsport and Andrew W. Hunsinger, of Williamsport; and two brothers, John L. (Barbara) Hunsinger, of Montoursville and Louis E. (Doris) Hunsinger, of Williamsport.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Emily L. Sullivan.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church, 2101 Newberry St., Williamsport, by Rev. Jay Jones. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church.
