Thomas L. Metzger

Thomas L. Metzger, 70, of Montoursville, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center. He and his wife, Sandy K. (Walker) Metzger, celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary on Oct. 12, 2013.

Born Sept. 14, 1943, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Carl and Louise (Dettling) Metzger.

Tom was a 1961 graduate of Williamsport High School. Just out of high school, Tom worked with his father as a carpenter building many houses in Montoursville. When his father retired, Tom became active with the Montoursville Fire Company as an ambulance driver and fireman. He retired in 2003 after 32 years of service in the Montoursville Police Department. After his retirement, Tom worked as a funeral assistant for several area funeral homes. Notably, his duties included leading the funeral procession safely through towns and neighborhoods.

Tom was a member of the Original League All Stars, under Coach Carl Stotz. He was a member of the F&AM Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 52, and the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club Chapter XIV. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

Surviving in addition to his wife Sandy, are a son, Greg S. (Annie) Metzger, of Williamsport; a daughter, Lisa R. Llewelyn, of Reading; grandchildren, Derek, Darin and Alexa Llewelyn, Brandi Metzger; one great-grandson, Carter Thomas Metzger; step-children Rene McClain, of Bellefonte, Kathy Garwood, of Montoursville, Rhonda Bower, of Williamsport; step-grandchildren, Megan Bellot, Eric, Jordan, and Jada Smith, Charles Grossnickle, Maranda and Mariah Garwood, Seth McClain; a sister, Sandy (Tom) Cohick, of Linden; and three brothers, Richard (Shirley) Metzger, of Williamsport, Dennis (Cheryl) Metzger, of Lock Haven, and Scott (Robin) Metzger, of Williamsport.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathy (Kieser) Metzger in 1976.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at Trinity Gospel Church, 1010 Elmira St., Williamsport. Burial will be held at State Road Cemetery, Cogan Station. Viewing will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport.
