William ‘Buck’ Monoski

William “Buck” Monoski, of Plunketts Creek Township, departed this world on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013.

He was 91 years young and lived his life vibrantly until faced with the challenges of the only serious illness of his lifetime.

Buck left peacefully, holding the hands of his family in the familiar comforts of his son Tom’s home in Montoursville.

Buck was born on April 22, 1922, in Renovo.

He was the son of the late Frank J. and Mary Garber Monoski.

He married the love of his life, the former Betty Jane Dailey, on Feb. 8, 1941, and remained by her side for 53 years until her passing in 1994.

Buck worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad/Penn Central as a Straw Boss, at Eastern Wood Products as a trimmer and lumber grader, and was a welder at Textron Lycoming until he retired at the age of 62.

Buck was a decorated World War II Army veteran, Private First Class with the 290th Infantry, 75th Division.

He was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five Bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and Marksman Rifle Badge.

In 2012, Buck was honored in a personal ceremony where he finally received the Bronze Star Medal, the fourth highest decoration for valor in combat. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, DuBoistown.

Buck was an accomplished hunter and fisherman. He bowled twice a week and received the Golden Age Bowler Award in 2012.

Buck loved his family and his cats and enjoyed nothing more than telling a good joke to his friends. He was the life of the party.

He was so much more than a father to his children, he was magical in their eyes, they have each lost their best friend.

Buck is survived by his sons Ronald L., and Sherel, of South Williamsport, Frank J., and companion Diane Fox, of Numidia, William Tom, and Sandy, of Montoursville; and his daughters, “Number 1” Kathy M. Belawski, and companion James R. Kauffman, of Middleburg, and “Number 2” Tina R. Monoski Anderson, of Wrightsville, Pa., his dear sister Julia Marshall, of Plunketts Creek Township; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, his cat Precious and two clever deer who somehow managed to escape his goal of shooting 50 buck in his lifetime.

Friends and family are welcome to bid their farewells to Buck at Spitler’s Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, beginning at 1 pm on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. and he will be laid to rest next to his loving wife and our dear mother in the Montoursville Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the Lycoming County Korean War Veterans.

Flowers may be arranged through Nevill’s Flowers in Montoursville (570-368-2649), or if preferred, donations to cover costs and expenses are being accepted in Buck’s memory c/o Monoski’s Billiards, 360 Broad St., Montoursville, Pa., 17754.
