Esther Lyon Lester
Esther Lyon Lester, 69, of 255 Broad St., Montoursville, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013.
She was born May 26, 1944, in Williamsport, a daughter of George W. and Eudora Fry Lyon, Sr.
Esther was a 1962 graduate of Montoursville High School and received her nursing degree from Temple University in 1965.
She was commissioned in the United States Air Force in the Nursing Corp, and was a Vietnam War veteran honorably discharged with the rank of Captain in 1973.
She also received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Lycoming College.
She served as an registered nurse throughout her career and retired as an R.N.A.C. with Kramm Heath Care.
Esther was a lifelong member of Church of Our Saviour, Episcopal Church in Montoursville and was a member of its Vestry, Alter Guild, and also served as Treasurer.
Esther was a member of the Williamsport Bridge Club.
She is survived by her former husband, Robert Lester, of Orlando, Fla., who was a devoted father and care giver to the end; her daughters, Kathleen E. (David Tessier), of Providence, R.I., and Elizabeth L. (Jason) Hilton, of Montoursville; brother, Thomas P. Lyon, of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister-in-law, Susan Lyon, of Montoursville; nephew, Aaron Lyon and niece, Amanda (Michael) Coleman; great-niece, Leah, and two grandchildren, Jack and Luke Tessier.
She was predeceased by her brother, George W. “Joe” Lyon, Jr., and by a sister, Elizabeth P. Lyon.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Church of Our Saviour, 31, N. Loyalsock Ave., Montoursville, with the Rev. Canon Andrew France officiating.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the church.
