Nesoa ‘Neva’ Magreth Golder Barber

Nesoa “Neva” Magreth Golder Barber, 95, passed from this world on Dec. 29, 2013, at ManorCare Nursing Facility, Jersey Shore.

She was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Zula Z. Hodlren Golder. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., Neva lived most of her life in northeastern and north central Pennsylvania. There she met her husband of 48 years, Raymond V. Barber Sr., who preceded her in death in August of 1995.

Neva worked for the Williamsport Hospital for over 24 years, starting in the house keeping department in 1967, where she was eventually promoted to the position of assisting the anesthesiologists within the operating rooms. The highlight of her career was being named the CARE employee of the month for December 1989. However, the highlight of her life was her children and grandchildren.

Neva was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. No matter what was going on in her life, her children and grandchildren always came first. Whenever anyone needed help, she was always there, lending a hand and correcting what needed mending. Her greatest joy was watching her children and grandchildren grow and become happy in their lives. Neva also enjoyed traveling in her later years, especially to New Mexico.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda (Edward) Harvey, of Trout Run; five sons, Raymond V. Jr. (Audrey) Barber, of Jersey Shore, Albert Mills, of Williamsport, Timothy (Karen) Barber, of Williamsport, Theodore (Ann) Barber, of California, Md., and Jeremiah (Pauline) Barber, of Hughesville; 16 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Neva was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Mills Hubbard; two sons, Glen Mills and Joseph Mills; and a sister, Ruby Spencer.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Rev. Thomas M. Brokaw officiating. Burial will follow in Bradford County Memorial Park, Towanda. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
