Helen Jean Fetzer

Helen Jean Fetzer, 85, died on Wednesday, April 23, 2014. Jean was born in Clearfield on Nov. 4, 1928, to the late Herman and Hazel Palmer.

After the family moved to Williamsport in the mid 1930s, Jean attended public school here and graduated from Williamsport High in 1946. Following graduation, she worked at the W. Howard Hartman Insurance Agency for many years and later at Northern Central (now M&T) Bank where she was a secretary in the Trust Dept. For most of her life, Jean was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church until it merged with Saint Paul United Methodist for 76 years. She devoted many hours as a volunteer with the American Red Cross and also with the Susquehanna 500 Mini Indy, which was founded by her late husband George Fetzer.

Besides her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband George; an infant son; her brothers, Herman (Tom) and Robert Palmer; her sister, Ruth Lohman; her niece, Barbara Weaver; and her grandnephew, Todd Agostineli.

She is survived by her brother, Charles Palmer, of Orange City, Fla.; by 14 nieces and nephews (including her primary care givers, Janice Ziegmann, of Williamsport and Debra Decker, of Brookville); numerous grandnieces and nephews; and even a few great-grandnieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17701 or to the American Red Cross, 320 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, Ltd., “A Life Celebration Home,” 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, with Rev. Robin L. Baer officiating. A visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park.
