Dorothy M. Rupert

Dorothy M. “Aunt Dot” Rupert, 102, a resident of Warrior Run Manor, Watsontown, formerly of Montgomery, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at her residence following a brief illness. Born in Montgomery, Lycoming County, on Sunday, April 7, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Oscar F. and Ellen (Renn) Steele.

She was the widow of Charles E. Rupert who preceded her in death in November of 1944.

She was employed by the former Montgomery Mills, retiring in 1975. Following her retirement, Dot was employed as a janitor by Bower-Decker American Legion Post 251 at Montgomery. Earlier in life she had a newspaper route covering a large area including surrounding counties.

Dorothy was a member of Watsontown American Legion Post 323 Ladies Auxiliary. She had formerly been a social member of Edward J. Smith VFW Post 3428 at Muncy. Aunt Dot enjoyed playing cards, especially poker, cinch and enjoyed playing pool and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed going out and having a beer now and then and looked forward to visiting her niece, Ruthy, for dinner and cards.

Aunt Dot is survived by one grandson, Scott C. Rupert, of Milton. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronald E. Rupert in 2005; two sisters, Harriet June Renninger and Grace McWilliams; and one brother, Clifford Steele.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted in the Muncy Cemetery, 204 E. Penn St., Muncy, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, with Chaplain Robin Steele, of the Celtic Hospice and Home Health, officiating. The family will provide the flowers. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Celtic Hospice and Home Health, 150 Scharberry Lane, Mars, PA 16046.
