Richard ‘Dick’ D. Wilcox
Richard “Dick” D. Wilcox, 90, resident of Morris, passed away on May 19, 2014, at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro. He was preceded in death by his wife, Madelyn A. Wilcox, on Dec. 22, 2011.
Richard was born on May 10, 1924, the son of the late Henry and Carrie (Perry) Wilcox. Richard attended the Wellsboro Area High School and graduated in 1942.
Richard was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and served in Shemya of the Aleutian Islands from 1943-1946. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After serving his time in the Army, Richard met his wife, Madelyn A. Root and they were married in 1946. Richard than began working for the U.S. Postal Service and retired after 30 years of service in 1982.
Richard was a life member of the Morris Township Fire Company and a charter member of the Morris Fireman’s Ambulance Association in Morris, and served as both Fire and Ambulance Chief for many years. He is a man that loved his family, volunteering, camping, watching the birds and also his cat, Morris.
Richard is survived by daughters, Marna (Robert) Wirth, of Liberty, Pamela (Larry) Warriner, of Mansfield, Ann (Shawn) Pylinski, of Mansfield, and Kathy Kreger, of Morris. Richard also has eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Richard is also survived by a sister, Jean Stadler, of Mansfield and sisters-in-law, Wanda Marvin, of Morris, Vivian Urban, of Liberty, Joanna Witmer, of Wellsboro and Josephine Root, of Brooksville, Fla. He was preceded in death by brothers, William Losinger and Warren Wilcox.
Friends and Family are invited to Richard’s Life Celebration 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, “A Life Celebration Home,” 139 Main St., Wellsboro. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. with Lay Speaker Sherri Butters officiating.
