Marchia D. Anderson

Marchia D. Anderson, 67, of Laporte, died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Columbia Montour Home Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville.

Born Dec. 24, 1946, in Bloomsburg, she was a daughter of the late Donald E. and Alice M. Smith Erlston. She and her husband, Thomas B. Anderson, celebrated 48 years of marriage on Jan. 29, 2014.

Marchia was a loving wife, mother, awesome grandma, daughter, sister and friend to many.

She began making her career in Sullivan County at the Sullivan County School District Office of the superintendent. For over 20 years she was involved with the real estate market throughout Sullivan County and received her GRI, where upon she served her clients with honesty and integrity.

Marchia was very active in her community and was a member of the Laporte Women’s Club. She served 10 years as head of the Sullivan County Library, where she ran the bookmobile and was instrumental in developing a literacy program. Marchia also served on the Laporte Borough Council and as a Democratic Committee Woman for Laporte Borough.

She enjoyed traveling, dancing, caring for others and above all, spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Brett D. (Tammy) Anderson, of Jersey Shore; two sisters, Alison (James) Tieman and Liann (Robert) Donahue, both of Delanco, N.J.; four brothers, Donald (Dee) Erlston, of Riverside, N.J., Dennis (Mira) Erlston, of Delanco, N.J., Mark (Joyce) Erlston, of Riverside, N.J., and Michael (Nancy) Erlston, of Florence, N.J.; three grandchildren, Connor Anderson, Owen Anderson and Reese Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Marchia was preceded in death by a sister, Guyla Hassal.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at Laporte United Methodist Church, Main St., Laporte, with Rev. Robert Brown officiating. A private burial will be held in Mountain Ash Cemetery, Laporte. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at the church.

The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions to the Laporte Fire Company, P.O. Box 31, Laporte, PA 18626 or the Sullivan County Library, P.O. Box 309, Dushore, PA 18614.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Hughesville.
