Wayne T. Spring

Wayne Thomas Spring, 77, a resident of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of East Penn Street, Muncy, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2014, in the Fawcett Memorial Hospital at Port Charlotte. Born Friday, Jan. 8, 1937, in Lairdsville, Lycoming County, he was the son of the late George Thomas Spring and Mary Aileen (Craig) Fague.

He was the husband of Jean L. (Miller) Spring with whom he would have celebrated a 58th wedding anniversary on June 30, 2014.

Wayne was a 1956 graduate of Muncy High School. He was employed as the service parts director by Shirn’s Auto Mart at Williamsport retiring in 1999. He was also the proprietor of the former Spring’s Texaco and Arco Service Stations at Muncy and had formerly been employed by Sprout-Waldron Co. at Muncy.

He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at Port Charlotte. Wayne was a former member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church at Muncy for over 60 years where he served on the church council and had served as the Sunday school superintendent. He was a former member of Muncy Lodge No. 299 Free and Accepted Masons and a former member and Past High Priest, in 1981, of the Warrior Run Royal Arch Chapter 246 at Watsontown. He was currently a member of the Punta Gorda Lodge No. 115. Mr. Spring was a former member of the Muncy Jaycees and had served as the state vice-president in 1964. He was also a former member of the Keystone Hook & Ladder Fire Co, at Muncy. He enjoyed woodworking.

In addition to his wife, Wayne is survived by two children, the Rev. Timothy W. and wife Pamela Spring, of Bozeman, Mont. and Sandra J. and husband Clifford Hoffman, of Hughesville; one brother, Dean E. Spring, of Muncy; five grandchildren, Jason Hoffman, Jeremy Hoffman, Justin Hoffman, Hilary Spring Porter and Bethany Spring; and six great-grandchildren, Grace, Noah, Adam Hoffman, Maci Klock, Lauren Hoffman and Liam Porter. Wayne was preceded in death by his sister, Rena P. Updegraff.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted in the Muncy Cemetery, East Penn Street, Muncy, at 10 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2014. A graveside Masonic memorial service will be conducted by Muncy Lodge No. 299 Free & Accepted Masons. The family will provide the flowers.
