Irene M. Bowers

Irene M. Bowers, 79, of Covington, died Friday, July 25, 2014, at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. She was born July 12, 1935, in Elverson, a daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Ruoss) Siefrit. She was the wife of Hartwell T. Bowers for 58 years.

Irene was a member of Calvary Nazarene in Williamsport. She was a foster parent for over 30 years to over 100 children. Irene was a 4-H leader for many years; and a teacher’s aide at East Vincent Elementary School in Spring City.

Irene is survived by her husband, Hartwell; five sons, Todd Bowers, of Saltsburg, Jon and Dennis Bowers, of Covington, Jeff and John Bowers, of Shoemakersville; a daughter, Grace Edwards, of New Holland; a brother, Joseph Siefrit, of Reading; four sisters, Mary Parke, of Gap, Sara Barrett, of Holt, Mo., Cassie Siefrit, of Leader Heights and Iona Partlow, of Sanatoga. Irene is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. She had a big heart and lots of love for all children.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Lou Gatti officiating. Burial will be in Tioga County Memorial Gardens, 61 Memorial Gardens Road, Mansfield.
