Gerald J. Thomke

Gerald J. “Jerry” Thomke passed away on Aug. 12 peacefully at his home in Lakeport, Calif., which he referred to as “heaven on earth.” He was the husband of the late Marlys (Fillmore) Thomke, whom he married in December 1961. Born in Williamsport on March 19, 1931, he was the son of the late Frederick J. Thomke and the late Violet L. (Polcyn) Thomke. Jerry served in the U.S. Army, graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor’s of science degree in aeronautical engineering, and earned his master’s degree in engineering from the University of Southern California. He worked for McDonnell Douglas aerospace company for 32 years as a research engineer before retiring, and truly was a “rocket scientist.” He was an avid fisherman, caring husband and father and a loving grandfather.

The eldest of six children, Jerry was pre-deceased by brother Robert Thomke, and is survived by brother, William Thomke; sisters, Gloria Thomke, Jean Good and Nancy Gotshall; son, Gregory Thomke, of Hawthorne, Calif. and his wife, Pauline; son Christopher Thomke, of Quakertown, Pa., his wife Kelly, their children Erica, Maria and Calvin; and son, Michael Thomke, of Finley, Calif.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. August 19, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lakeport, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
