Lucille J. Jolin Matter
Lucille J. Jolin Matter, 90, of Grimesville Road, Williamsport, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at her home.
Born April 7, 1924, in East Brady, she was a daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Woodring.
Lucille graduated from Lock Haven State Teachers College and later earned her Master’s in Education from Bloomsburg University. She also attended University of Pittsburgh for her doctorate degree, and earned her principal certificate from Penn State University. She was employed with Sylvania for 17 years. She was an elementary teacher for the Williamsport Area School District for 22 years. She helped start the special education program in Williamsport and had earned her certificates for special education, elementary principal, and secondary principal. She retired from teaching in 1992.
She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish and Weedville Senior Center. She enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, photography and riding motorcycles. She enjoyed going back to her old homestead in Elk County which she used as her family’s cabin.
Surviving are her son, Joseph L. Jolin, of Williamsport; two grandsons, Mark A. (Shelly) and Scott M. Jolin, both of Williamsport; a great-grandson, Ryan; and companion Allan Loosemore, with whom she lived.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Jolin, in 1991; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Jolin on Aug. 9, 2014; and siblings, Hughey Woodring Sr., William Woodring, Edward Woodring and Monette Rupp.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery. A viewing will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Sanders Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lucille’s name may be made to Susquehanna Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport.
