Maxine Elizabeth Halowell

Maxine Elizabeth Halowell, 100, formerly of Spring St., Duboistown, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, in Calvert Nursing Home, Prince Frederick, Md.

Born Dec. 14, 1914, in Rathmel, she was a daughter of Charles A. and Edna G. Melton London. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy D. Halowell, on June 2, 1993, and three brothers, Leonard, Percy and Lyman London.

Maxine was a graduate of Reynoldsville High School. She was a member of Duboistown United Methodist Church, where she was the church organist for many years. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, sewing, quilting, gardening and playing Canasta. She had worked at Lycoming Day Care for 29 years.

Surviving are a daughter, Alice Kyle, of Owings, Md., with whom she lived for the past three years; two grandchildren, Michelle Bowie, of Burtonsville, Md. and Stephen Kyle, of N. Charleston, S.C.; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Josephine Park, of New Brighton, Pa.

A funeral service to honor Maxine’s life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at Duboistown United Methodist Church, 133 Summer St., Duboistown. Burial will be held in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Visitation will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Duboistown U.M.C.
