Dr. Gordon A. ‘Gordie’ Shaw Jr.
Dr. Gordon A. “Gordie” Shaw Jr., 70, of Williamsport, passed away on Oct. 22, 2016, at Hershey Medical Center from complications following a heart attack and surgery.
Born Nov. 21, 1945, in Lebanon, Pa., where his father was serving in the army.
After completing medical training, he served in the U.S. Navy, and received a Letter of Commendation for outstanding service from the U.S. Surgeon General. He then joined the radiology practice at Williamsport Hospital in 1977, retiring in 2015. He was twice named as Care Physician and listed in “Best Doctors in America.”
Gordie was respectful and kind to everyone he met, and always put others before himself. He was an avid reader and lifelong learner. He enjoyed travel and the outdoors, river rafting, hiking and European trips with his wife Margie. Gordie was a true scholar and gentle-man.
A devoted husband, father, and brother, he is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margie, and three children, Dr. Gordon Shaw III (Janice), Tony Shaw (Siobhan), and Erin Shaw Wood (Cutter); his sister, Nancy Shaw; and three grandchildren, Lila, Gordon IV and Cavan.
A gathering of friends in his memory will take place in the rotunda of the James V. Brown Library on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. A brunch reception at the Peter Herdic House will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Central Pennsylvania Conservancy, 330 Government Place, Williamsport, PA 17701 or the James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
