Dr. Ralph Harry Tietbohl Jr., 90, of Wyomissing, passed away Nov. 9, 2016, in the Reading Hospital.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan R. (Foltz) Tietbohl, whom he married on Sept. 1, 1951, and with whom he shared many adventures and travels.

Born in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Ralph H. Sr. and Ruth R. (Stiber) Tietbohl.

Ralph was a 1944 graduate of South Williamsport High School. He received a bachelor of science degree from Susquehanna University in 1949 and a medical degree from Temple University in 1953. He was self-employed as a general practitioner for over forty years, starting in 1954. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran who proudly served two years as a naval officer and ship’s physician.

Ralph was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a beloved member of his community. He loved serving the community in his profession as a family doctor and spending time with his family. He especially loved to travel and adventure with family throughout the U.S. He enjoyed the outdoors along lakes and in the mountains and could name birds from the sounds of their chirps or from a feather found along the trail. He was an avid fisherman and loved to hike, swim, water ski and snow ski. He taught his children so many things including setting an unparalleled example of dedication, hard work and how to have fun along the way.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children: Patricia A., wife of Douglas A. Romich, of Newton, Mass.; Gregory L., husband of Tae-Hyun Moon, of Calif.; Douglass R., husband of Sharon Tietbohl, Malvern; Jon A. Tebol, West Palm Beach, Fla. and Phillip J., husband of Nancy Bestwick Tietbohl, of Wyomissing. He is survived by 13 grandchildren: Trevor, Stephanie, Caroline, Amanda, Emmanuelle, Aubree, Craig, Cole, Eden, Matthew, Nathan, Isabelle and Peter and two great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Audrey. One brother, Rev. Augustus V., husband of Josephine Tietbohl and one sister, Mary Ann, wife of Robert Hoover, of Montoursville, also survive him.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, at Advent Lutheran Church, 16 Telford Ave., West Lawn, PA 19609. Contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 237 Court St., Reading, PA 19601. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
