Francis P. ‘Frank’ Cummings

Francis P. “Frank” Cummings died on Nov. 3, 2016, at his home.

Born Jan. 16, 1930, he was the son of John and Irene Staib Cummings. He graduated from South Williamsport High School in 1947 and served as cryptographer in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952 and later attended Lycoming College.

Most of his working years were at Grit Publishing Co., where he held several management positions and served on the Advisory Board. When Grit was sold in 1981, the new owners began terminating groups of mostly older employees. In 1982, Frank was among one of those groups. He then served as Public Information Director at Hope Enterprises, and in 1985, he got a job as a clerk at the Hughesville Post Office, where he retired six years later. Francis was a life member of the Gesang Verin Harmonia.

He was married in 1954 to the former Marie Stone, who passed away April 13, 2013. He is survived by a daughter, Karen (Stephen) Retorick, of Williamsport; brothers, Charles, of Doylestown, Ohio and Rudy, of Williamsport; and grandsons Zachary and Colin, who lived with Frank and Marie as youngsters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., on Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. His cousin, Rev. Charles Cummings, will officiate.

Friends may call at the church for visitation from 8-9:30 a.m. on Monday. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery.
