Marcelene H. Brown
Marcelene H. Brown “Abuelita,” 67, of Williamsport, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, at Rose View Center.
She was born in Williamsport on Jan. 3, 1949. Marcelene was the daughter of the late James O. Brown and Thelma (Brace) Brown.
She was a graduate of Williamsport High School and also attended The Philadelphia School of Arts. In recent years, Marcelene renewed her interest in drawing and painting; taking classes and producing a number of impressing paintings. Marcelene lived life to the fullest and exemplified a life well lived. She gained great pleasure riding her bicycle far and wide. She was a member of the YMCA and took various classes there.
Marcelene embodied the spirit of giving and sharing. As such, for 21 years, she volunteered her services hosting a weekly radio show filling the air with spirit filled music, relevant scriptures and sage advice. She also hosted numerous concerts, culturally related events and community engagements such as the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute, the Annual Kwanza Celebration and the Juneteenth Celebration. She was the resident manager of the Project Impact Bridge Haven Guest House for nine years. She was an original member of the Living Example Ministry since the year 2000. She was actively engaged in the Sojourner Truth Ministries, Bethel AME Church and City Church. Marcelene was a member of the Pennsylvania Prison Society and ministered to the prisoners at the Lycoming County Prison.
Surviving are three daughters, Malinda D. Houseknecht (Jason), of Williamsport, Jimmae S. Jackson, of Williamsport, and Marcelene V. Benjamin (James), of Carlisle; three brothers, James O. Brown Jr., of Williamsport, John L. Brown, of Williamsport, and Robert D. Brown (Sonja), of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Leslie O. Brown, of Williamsport; five grandchildren, Caleb Getty, twins, Alexis and Bailey Getty, Malika Benjamin and Izaiah Benjamin; and several extended family and friends.
A funeral service to honor the life of Marcelene will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4 at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at Knight-Confer Funeral Home.
