Mary L. Confer
Mary L. Confer, 88, formerly of Moore Avenue, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at the Williamsport Home.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, John L. Confer, in 2012.
Mary was a 1945 graduate of Williamsport High School, worked as a bookkeeper for Fisher Mining Co. for many years and retired from Klein and Rizzo. She was an active member of St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church for 57 years; former church treasurer, United Methodist Women, Prouty Sunday School Class, Polyanna’s and the Counting Committee. She had served as treasurer of the Ravine Travel Group and was a member of the Messiah Senior Citizens.
Mary and John traveled often, including a nine and a ten week camping trip to the west coast with their children, having visited all 50 states and were on several cruises and bus trips.
Born Feb. 21, 1928, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Marshall E. and Hannah J. Calhoun Trimble.
Surviving are a daughter, Ann L. (Steve) Avery, of Horseheads, N.Y.; sons, John M. (Linda), of Williamsport and Gary M. (Cheryl) of Norfolk, Va.; grandchildren, Robin (Nathan) Smith, Beth (Mark) Sette, John “J.R.” (Patty) Confer, Jill L. (Tom) Confer and Michelle (Mike) Confer; step grandchildren, Regina (Dave) Shawley and Robert Schaefer; great-grandchildren, Noah and Aaron Smith and Jack Confer and her very special friend, Bill Shade.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. Jay Jones officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Memorial Fund at St. John’s, 2101 Newberry St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
