John Henry ‘JJ’ James
John Henry “JJ” James, 79, of Williamsport, died on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at his residence.
John was born in Reydel, Ark., on Feb. 22, 1937 and was the son of the late Henry and Ophelia (Brooks) James. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1955; then graduated from Williamsport Technical Institute with a degree in printing. He had worked at the former Eureka Paper Box Company for over 40 years and retired as a press foreman. After retiring, he worked as a ranger at White Deer Golf Course until 2016. He was a lifetime member of the International Brotherhood Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 207 and enjoyed golfing.
John is survived by his life partner of 39 years, Mary I. (Jackson) Whittington, of Williamsport; one son, David Lee James and wife, Tammie, of Stroudsburg; one daughter, Sadie Mae James, of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren, Aaron David James, of Williamsport, Mia Lynn James and Emma Leigh James, both of Stroudsburg and Shantel James Quezire, of Charlotte, N.C.; one great-grandson, Devin Alexander Quezire, of Charlotte, N.C.; one sister, Lorene Womack, of Jamestown, N.Y.; one uncle, John Brooks, of Jamestown, N.Y.; one niece, Jeanne Montrese, of Minneapolis, Minn.; one great-nephew, Adonis Fraizer, of Minneapolis, Minn.; two great-great-nephews; and one great-great-niece.
There will be a public viewing 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Maneval Allen Redmond Cremation & Funeral Home, 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. Following the viewing, an Elks service will begin at noon and the funeral following.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.
