Lawrence M. Engel Jr.

Lawrence M. Engel Jr., 88, of Williamsport, passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at the Gatehouse in Divine Providence Hospital. He was born Dec. 15, 1928, in Williamsport, a son of Lawrence M. Sr. and Beatrice Musheno Engel.

He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Air Force and worked as a carpenter for Lundy Construction. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Young Men’s Republican Club and the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County. He loved playing the piano, his sweets and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He enjoyed working with his hands, camping, hunting and fishing.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Claris Day; grandchildren, Brenda Engel and Ryan Bruner; and his brother, James Engel.

He is survived by his sons, Gary S. (Lee) Engel, of Ellenwood, Ga., John D. (Brenda) Engel, of Centre, Ala., Lawrence M. (Donna) Engel III, of Cogan Station and Phillip G. (Deborah), of Jonesboro, Ga.; daughters, Kathleen M. (Kevin) Francis, of Cogan Station, Barbara D. (David) Lanzer, of South Williamsport, and Michele L. Bruner, of Charlotte, N.C.; brother, Robert Engel, of Montoursville; sisters, Mary Urbano, of Williamsport and Rita Ann Engel, of Danville; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., Williamsport, with the Rev. Michael S. McCormick as celebrant. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County. A viewing for family and friends will be held Tuesday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the church.
