Constance “Connie” S. Roupp

Constance “Connie” S. Roupp, 69, of Athens, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at Athens Health and Rehabilitation Center, Athens, following an extended illness.

She was born on Aug. 16, 1947, in Williamsport, the daughter of the late Edward and Louise (Selleck) Szybist.

Connie attended Williamsport High School, graduating in 1965. She furthered her education at Mansfield University, obtaining her bachelor’s degree in 1969 and her master’s degree in library science from the University of Albany-SUNY in 1970. She worked for the Athens Area School District as the librarian for 33 years, prior to retiring in 2003.

She was a member of the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association, serving as their secretary and treasurer for many years. She was presented the Outstanding Contributor Award in 2013, which is the organization’s highest honor awarded to their members. Connie was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Professional Teachers Sorority. She was a member of the board of directors at the Spaulding Library, Athens and volunteered at the Bradford County Emergency Management Services.

Connie was a strong believer that anyone could succeed if given the right opportunity and guidance.

Connie was a loving wife and mother. She recently became the proud grandmother to Leonardo, who was her pride and joy. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a woman whose faith, family and friends were her priority. Connie enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling.

Connie is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, Francis “Skip” Roupp III, at home; sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher and Katherine Roupp, of Atlanta, Ga. and their son Leonardo and Marshall Roupp and Kaelyn Robinson, of Charleston, S.C.; brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Patricia Szybist, of Clarksville, Md.; chosen family member, Elesha Roupp, of Charlotte, N.C.; several nieces; one nephew; and many cousins. She is also survived by numerous special friends and will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Family and friends may call on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, from 5-8 p.m. at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 S. Main St., Athens. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 207 S. Hopkins St., Sayre, with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating.

Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens.
