Frederick A. ‘Fred’ Dahlgren

VETERAN

Frederick A. “Fred” Dahlgren, 94, of Williamsport, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center. Surviving is his wife of 72 years, June S. (Tietbohl) Dahlgren.

Born Dec. 24, 1922, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Andrew and Lavina Dahlgren.

Fred was a Williamsport High School graduate. Following graduation he was employed with Electric Boat, where they built experimental boats that later became PT boats or Patrol Torpedo boats that were a torpedo-armed fast attack craft used by the U.S. Navy in World War II. Fred was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran serving on the Midway as a pilot. After his military service he was employed with Highland Chocolates in Wellsboro, later managed Carson Finance in Troy, became president of First National Bank and retired in 1986 from Commonwealth Bank in Williamsport. After retirement Fred volunteered at Divine Providence Hospital and was awarded a certificate for 20,000 hours of volunteer work.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Troy Lions Club and was a 32nd degree Mason of Ivy Lodge 397, F. & A.M.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Fritz A. Dahlgren (Vaun), of Conn. and Kim E. Dahlgren (Elizabeth), of Williamsport; a granddaughter, Roxanne Gross (Matthew), of Colo.; a great-grandchild, Bode Gross; and three sisters, Doris Williams, of Williamsport, Ruthie Freezer, of Danville and Joyce Springman (Clair), of Va.

A memorial service to honor the life of Fred will be held noon Saturday, March 11 at First United Methodist Church, 2 Ross St., Williamsport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Fred’s name to First United Methodist Church, 2 Ross St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
