Mary Clare Hunter

Mary Clare Hunter, 78, a lifetime resident of Williamsport, passed away at the Williamsport Home on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017.

Born in Williamsport Nov. 15, 1938, the daughter of Ralph A. and Mary McGonnell.

She attended St. Boniface School and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. For forty plus years, she was an irreplaceable member of the Vannucci Pharmacy Family. Mary started working for Don Sr., while Don Jr. was still in pharmacy school and continued working there until after Don Jr.’s passing and the store was sold. Most customers knew her as Mary from Vannucci’s. She loved her work and devoted herself to it and especially to her family.

She spent her life spreading cheer with her happy smile, making difficult jobs look easy and taking extraordinarily good care of several generations of family members. Wherever loving care was needed, Mary Clare was there.

Mary Clare also expressed her caring nature through assisting her brother, Richard, in capturing special memories for hundreds of couples who employed the services of the Richard A. Hunter Photography Studio. She touched many lives and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her brother-in-law, William O. Hargenrader Sr.; nephews, William O. Hargenrader Jr., Craig A. Hargenrader, Scott E. Hargenrader; niece, Lori A. Tully; cousins, Kay McGonnell, Carol Waldman Konkle, Joe McGonnell; and many great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Hargenrader; and her brother, Richard A. Hunter.

The family will receive family and friends in the church lounge from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., Williamsport, with Msgr. Stephen D. McGough officiating. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Mary Clare’s name may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 57 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701-1309 or at alz.org.
