Cecil B. Smith

Cecil B. Smith

Cecil B. (Dick) Smith, 80, of Shermans Dale, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Camp Hill.

Born February 12, 1937, in Lack Township in Juniata County, he was a son of the late Sherman and Clara (Yetter) Smith. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and family camping. He was especially proud of working the garden at home with his treasured Cub Cadet tractor. More than anything Cecil loved his family. Being a family man was more important than anything else and his grandchildren ranked highest on the list.

Among his many career accomplishments he was most proud of the time he spent with Lycoming Construction, Williamsport, Guipel Construction and Perini Corporation, of Framingham, Mass., on the Bloomington Lake Project in Keyser, W Va., as a drilling foreman and blasting foreman while holding a blaster’s license in six different states.

He was also involved and very supportive for many years in the Boy Scouts of America as a parent and later as a grandparent. All that knew him would agree his epic sense of humor and storytelling is how he’ll be remembered most.

Cecil is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marjorie “Tina” Smith; his sons, Richard Smith (Christal) and Frank Smith; his sister, Martha Trego; his grandchildren, Hunter, Christopher, Leanne and Collin, and his great granddaughter, Bailey Lynn Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Viola, Banks, Carl, Ralph, Thomas, Faye, James, and Sherman.

His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, 2100 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, with Pastor Glenn Smith to officiate. Visitation will be an hour prior to services from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
