George E. Rishel

George E. “Gene” Rishel, 77, of Picture Rocks, died Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Arista Care Loyalsock, Montoursville.

Gene and his wife Rose M. (Stover) Rishel recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on April 8, 2017.

Born May 12, 1940, in Muncy, he is the son of the late Carl M. and Emma K. (Morris) Rishel.

Prior to his retirement in 2002, Gene was employed as a machine operator at Andritz, Muncy, for over 40 years. He also worked for H & R Block Tax Service and then owned and operated his own tax service for many years. He also owned and operated Andrews Disposal Service. Gene attended Picture Rocks United Methodist Church, and was a member of Muncy Lodge, No. 299, F. & A.M., the Williamsport Consistory and the Muncy Valley Moose Lodge No. 866.

He loved gardening, long walks, bowling and riding with his wife on their bicycle built for two. Gene loved spending time with his family and family vacations.

Surviving in addition to his wife Rose is a son, Jeffery E. “J.R.” Rishel, of Picture Rocks; a daughter, Kelly L. (Sam) Lightbourn, of Hughesville; four grandchildren, Cody R. Rishel, Jordan N. (Zachary) Sarginger, Thomas E. (Brooke) McConnell, Jackson P. McConnell; and a brother, Charles E. (Ruth) Rishel, of Muncy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Garnhart.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, Pastor Lynn Wilcox officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Friends may call on Tuesday, one hour prior to the funeral, where a Masonic funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.
