Michael ‘Midnite’ Lee Tobias

Michael Lee Tobias, 65, of Williamsport, passed away on Jan. 13, 2017, at the Williamsport Hospital following a lengthy and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born July 27, 1951, In Jersey Shore, he was the son of the late Barbara J. (Jewell) Hall, of Montoursville, and the late Harold Robert Tobias, of Lodi, Calif. and was also the stepson of the late Dale K. Hall, of Williamsport.

A 1969 graduate of Loyalsock High School, Mike attended Lycoming College before being drafted into the Army. He served honorably in Vietnam between March 18, 1971, and Dec. 12, 1972. After his Army service, Mike returned to his job at the former Bill Fry Ford Company, Montoursville, before beginning his 30-year career as a United States Postman, retiring in 2015.

Mike was a member of the Republican Party, the NRA and many other conservative groups. He was also very interested in politics, classic cars, classic rock and major league football (Raiders) and major league baseball (Orioles).

Mike is survived by his sister, Sharyn M. Eckman (Jim), of Montoursville; a niece, Erica M. Eckman (Jared) Hardy, step-grandniece Gabrielle Hardy and step-grandnephew Dominic Hardy, all of Lock Haven; a maternal aunt, Mary Jane Keller, of Tyrone; by many cousins; and by his beloved cat, Lee Ann. He is also survived by two stepsisters, Joanne (Bob) Machold, of Tucson, Ariz. and Marcella (David) Moharter, of Arlington, Texas, by Marcy’s daughter Shannon and by Shannon’s three children.

A joint memorial service to honor the lives of Mike and his mother Barbara will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2017, at Central Baptist Church, 601 Seventh Ave., Williamsport, with visitation at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at Twin Hills Memorial Park with full military honors accorded to Mike by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Mike’s name may be made to LAPS, 195 Phillips Park Drive, South Williamsport, in recognition of his lifelong love of cats.
