Alfred R. Gomb

Alfred R. Gomb, 80, of Montoursville, passed away with his family at his side on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, in Montoursville.

Born November 15th, 1936, in Nanticoke, he was the son of Victor and Bertha Wysocki Gomb. He graduated from Ashley High School, Ashley, Pa., in 1954. Al entered the U.S. Navy in January 1956, was released from active duty 1959, and honorably discharged in January 1962. He entered the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in December 1960, and graduated in May 1961. Trooper Gomb was assigned to Montoursville Troop F, and served in Montoursville, Emporium, and Coudersport before returning to the Montoursville Barracks. He retired in January 1991. He subsequently contracted with the United States Marshall Service, becoming a Court Security Officer of the 3rd Middle District, Williamsport. He retired as a Deputy District Marshall in 1997.

Al was a member of the FOP Lodge No. 49. Socially, he enjoyed hunting at the Allegheny Hunting Club and fishing the Loyalsock Creek, as well as in New York State.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Victor Jr. and Richard; and sister, Mary Sharon.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Jean Krupa Gomb; his daughters, Judy Poe and Amy Gomb, both of Colo.; Mary (Andrew) Kintzi, of Harrisburg; and Melisa Gomb, of Asheville, N.C.; and sister, Geraldine Dirner, of Wilkes-Barre.

A funeral mass and a celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Al’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
