James C. Young, 85, of McEwensville, passed away on Saturday, Jun 24, 2017, at his home.

Born in Allenwood on July 7, 1931, he was the son of the late James and Irene Brown Jamison Young. He was married to the former Evelyn Snyder until her death in 1998 and the former Carol “Cookie” Hartzell until her death in 2012.

James was a graduate of Watsontown High School and had served in the Air Force during the Korean War as a tail gunner in a B 29.

In 1958 he went to Barber School and had cut hair at Sterner’s General Store in Dewart. He also worked for Curtis Artificial, inseminating cattle and retired from PennDOT as a supervisor. Most notably he was an auctioneer for 51 years.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania Auctioneers Association, where he was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1996, served as President in 2000, was Auctioneer of the Year in 2001. He had also served as Treasurer in 2011 for the northeast chapter of the PAA.

James was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Watsontown, life member of both the American Legion in Watsontown and the VFW in Turbotville, The F & AM in Watsontown, where he was a 33rd Degree Mason, and was a member of the Scottish Rite in Williamsport. He was also active with the AFSCME.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry J. and LaVera Young, of White Deer, and Gary J. and Sandy Young, of New Columbia; three children and spouses by marriage, Lisa and Brian Stackhouse, of Turbotville, Cindy and Tom Eurich, of McEwensville, and Tim Hartzell, of New Columbia; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Young, and a sister, Hazel Inners.

Friends and relatives will be received from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St. Milton. A Masonic service will begin at 2 p.m. followed by the funeral with the Rev. Elizabeth Affsprung. Burial with military honors will follow in the Watsontown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Watsontown Masonic Lodge No. 401, Building Fund, 209 Main St., Watsontown, PA 17777.
