Raymond Arthur “Artie” Crist, 69, of Jersey Shore, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017, in Wildwood, N.J.

Born Sept. 9, 1947, in Jersey Shore, he was the son to the late of Raymond D. Crist and the former Jeanne A. Randall.

Before graduating from Jersey Shore High School in 1965, he was awarded a good citizen of the month from the JS Rotary. After graduating, he worked for the Allegheny Creamery. He then enlisted in the Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1971. While serving, he was stationed in Turkey and Vietnam. After being discharged, he went to the former King Aviation and received his pilot license. He continued his flying career by getting his commercial certificate.

He worked at JS Steel Mill where he met his future wife. After leaving the Mill, he went to work for Globe Air in Cleveland. After returning home, he worked at Piper Aircraft for 18 years in Lock Haven, where he received his A&P License, and later in Veno Beach, Fla. After returning home again in 1990, he began working for Lycoming Engine until 2010. While there he held various management positions, traveling thoughtout North America. He received an Innovation Award for an Engine Kit program. He also did FAA Seminars while at Lycoming. From 2012, he worked for Susquehanna Trailways as a tour bus driver.

While being a member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Avis, he served on the council and the treasury. Upon closing of Trinity, he became a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Jersey Shore. He was also a member of the JS Elks Lodge 1057, JS Rotary, JS F&AM Masonic Lodge 232, Williamsport Consistory AASR Scottish Rite (32 degree) and the Quiet Birdmen Club.

Surviving are his loving wife, Eugenie E. (Ungard), they were united in marriage on June 8, 1974, at Phelps Chapel; sisters, Beverly Spong, of South Williamsport and Gail (Pete) Lord, of North Ridgeville, Ohio; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sandra and Samuel Orndorff, of NH, Candace and Thomas Ungard, of TX, and Ann and James Ungard, of CA; and many nieces and nephews.

He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 229 S. Broad St., Jersey Shore. A time of visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening, June 20, 2017, at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. The Rev. Dr. Kerry Aucker and the Rev. Christopher Milarch will officiate.

Burial will be held in the Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven, with full military honors accorded by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard.

The family asks that memorial contributions in Artie’s name be made to an SPCA or charity of your choice.
