William David Carty
William David Carty, 86, of Dalton, Mass., died Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. He joins his two sons the late David W. Carty and Peter J. Carty.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Janet (Galvin); two daughters, Jean Stanford, of Pittsfield and Elizabeth Yantorno, of Stamford, Conn.; two sons, Robert Carty, of Germantown, Wis., and Tim Carty, of Charlton, Mass.; a brother, John Carty, of Sunnyvale, Calif.; a sister, Patricia Foley, of Reading, Mass.; and twelve grandchildren.
Born in Springfield, Mass., on Feb. 24, 1931, the son of John P. and Nora Walsh Carty, he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Textile Engineering from Lowell Technical Institute and a Master’s Degree in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Bill spent his career in the pulp and paper industry working for several different companies culminating as the Vice President – Marketing for Beloit-Jones in Dalton, Mass.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant Junior Grade on the USS Barton (DD-722), honorably discharged in June 1957.
Bill was a Eucharistic minister of St. Agnes Church, where he taught CCD for many years.
He enjoyed military history, reading, playing golf, and was an avid Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots fan.
Funeral services for William D. Carty will be held Monday, July 24, 2017, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., at St. Agnes Church celebrated by Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-7 p.m., at Dery-Foley Funeral Home in Dalton, Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire County Jimmy Fund in care of the Funeral Home, 890 E. Main St., Dalton, MA.
